Essentials. When contacting the VWC it is important to know:

(1) the VWC File Number of the claim if one has been assigned,

(2) the accident date or date of first communication of an occupational disease,

(3) claimant’s name, and 

(4) claimant's social security number.

FAX. The VWC will NOT fax information except in exceptional cases with prior approval. A FAX TO the Clerk’s Office in Richmond, (804) 367-9740, or any Regional Office (see FAX numbers below) is normally limited to the following: claimant’s Claim for Benefits; employer’s Applications; Requests for Review; matters specifically requested by a VWC employee. The following may be FAXED TO the attention of the Claims Examination Dept.: Return of Orders; information requested by a Claim’s Examiner.

Offices, Hearing Locations and Maps. The VWC has a main office in Richmond and five regional offices. Hearings may be held in various other locations as well. Boydton

Charlottesville 2nd Floor Council Chamber, 606 East Market Street, Charlottesville, VA. I-64 West to exit 121 [U.S. Route 20 - Monticello Avenue). Follow this route to and turn right onto Avon Street. Continue to Market Street. Turn left at Market Street, and continue for one block to the city hall.

Covington  Alleghany County Administration Bldg., Board Room, 2nd Floor

Covington, VA 24426. [Eastbound] Take I-64 East to exit 10, turning left onto U.S. Route 60 East. Continue on Route 60E for approximately 4.6 miles. You will pass a Boy's Home on a hill on the left side of the road, after which you will drive up a steep hill into a residential section. This will be followed by a smaller decline into the residential area of Rosedale. Make a right turn at the second intersection onto Rosedale Avenue. Hearings are held in the boardroom of the Allegheny County Administration Building, 110 Rosedale Avenue. A green sign will help locate the County Administration Building, which is a brick building a block over. [If you come to a bridge going into the business section, you have gone too far.] The boardroom is on the second
floor. 
[Westbound] Take I-64 West to exit 16. Turn right at the stop sign, and a left at the traffic light onto U.S. Route 220 North. Turn left at the second traffic light onto Monroe Avenue. Continue on to the bridge after the fourth traffic light. Take the second left onto Rosedale Avenue after crossing the bridge. Hearings are held in the boardroom of the Allegheny County Administration Building, 110 Rosedale Avenue. A green sign will help locate the County Administration Building, which is a brick building a block over. The boardroom is on the second floor.

Danville Danville Regional Airport, Airport Drive, Danville, VA. Route 360 West to Route 58 at South Boston. Follow Route 58 to Danville Regional Airport. Turn left on Airport Drive.

Hampton Hampton City Council Chambers

I-64 East to exit 267 (Hampton University). Take a sharp right turn at the end of the exit ramp onto Settlers Landing Road. Turn right after crossing the river bridge, onto Eaton Street. Continue several blocks to and turn left onto Lincoln Street.  Hampton City Hall is on the right corner. (22 Lincoln St.)

Isle of Wight The Board of Supervisors Room

I-95 South to U.S. Route 460 East. Take Route 460 East to U.S. Route 258. Turn left onto Route 258. Continue approximately five miles. The hearings are held in the Boardroom of Board of Supervisors on the second floor of the Administration Building at 17130 Monument Circle. The Administration Building faces Highway 258 and is at the top of the circular driveway, next to the Isle of Wight County Courthouse.

Lynchburg

Madison War Memorial Building

Madison, VA 22727. Take I-64 to Charlottesville. Exit at U.S. Route 29 North to Route 29 Business, and then back to Route 29 North. Follow to Madison County. When you see Mountain View Chevrolet, merge into the left lane to turn left onto Route 29 Business/Va. Route 231, after you pass Madison High School. This route becomes Main Street. The courthouse is in the War Memorial Building at Main and Church Streets.

Martinsville, VA [From Richmond] Take U.S. 360 West to U.S. 58 West. Continue on Route 58 through Danville to Martinsville, to Church Street. Follow Church Street to and make a right turn onto Clay Street. Go one block on Clay Street to Main Street. Turn left onto Main Street, then left onto Moss Street, and left after one block onto Church Street, to the City Hall at 55 Church Street.

[From Roanoke] Take U.S. 220 South to Martinsville U.S. 220 Business Exit. Take U.S. 220 Business to U.S. 57, which takes you to the City Hall at 55 Church Street.

Rustburg  Campbell County General District Ct.,

[From Richmond] Take U.S. Route 360 West from Richmond. About 10 miles past Amelia, turn right onto U.S. Route 307. Continue to U.S. Route 460 West, through Appomattox, to Va. Route 24 West [near Concord]. Follow this to Rustburg. Go past the traffic light in Rustburg, and go approximately ¼ miles to the new courthouse on the right.

[From Charlottesville] Take U.S. Route 29 South from Charlottesville through Lynchburg. Take U.S. Route 501 South to Rustburg. Turn right at the traffic light in Rustburg, and go approximately ¼ miles to the new courthouse on the right.

Smithfield

I-95 South to I- 85 South to first South Hill exit #15.  This is U.S. Route 1, which becomes Mechlenburg Avenue.  Go 2 miles to the VEC office on the left.  The address is 910 Mecklenburg Avenue.

Stafford Stafford County General District Court

(possibly starting January 2000). I-95 to exit 140. Turn right onto Route 630 for approximately 1 mile. The Stafford County Courthouse will be on the left at the intersection of Route 630 and U.S. Route 1.

Staunton Staunton Circuit Court Bldg., 2nd Floor,

Staunton, VA 24402. Take I-64 West to I-81 North. Take exit 222 onto U.S. Route 250 West to Greenville Avenue. Turn right onto Greenville and pass under a railroad trestle. Continue straight through the traffic light on Greenville, which will soon become Coalter Street. Go up the hill, through one traffic light, and continue on for one block. Turn left onto Frederick Street. Go one block, and turn left onto Market Street. [Mary Baldwin College will be on your right.] Proceed one block further to Beverly Street. The hearing room is in the old City Hall Building at 113 E. Beverly Street. Because Beverly Street is one-way with travel to the left, and the City Hall Building is one block right, you should consider parking in the metered lot on Market near Beverly Street and walking to the hearing room.

Tappahannock School Board/County Office Complex, Route 17 (End of Cross Street North), Tappahannock, VA. U.S. Route 360 East towards Tappahannock. Turn left at intersection of Route 360 and U.S. Route 17 North. Continue on Route 17, when Route 360 separates to the east towards Northern Neck. The Essex County Public Library and the School Board Offices Building will be on the right approximately 1 block past that turn off [directly opposite the Marks-Bristow Funeral Home on the left]. The hearing room is on the first floor of the School Board offices building, the building with stone columns facing Route 17.

Warrenton I-95 North to Fredericksburg. Take exit 133 and U.S. Route 17 North to Warrenton. Take the first Warrenton exit (left exit) onto U.S. Route 17 Business. Follow this to Waterloo Street. Turn right on Waterloo Street to courthouse. Turn right past the courthouse and go two blocks to the new courthouse.

Warsaw

Take 64 East to Exit 238 (Camp Perry/Colonial Williamsburg, Exit).  You will be on Route 143.  At the second light, make a right turn onto Route 132.  Go approximately 2 miles and then turn right onto Lafayette Street.  Go 1 block and turn left onto Boundary Street.  The Stryker Building is on the right side of the street.  There is 2 hour parking in a deck on the left side of the street or 2 hour parking in a lot behind the Stryker Building.

VWC Departments frequently contacted. When writing the VWC, it speeds mail processing to indicate on the envelope the department handling the file:

Claims Department, VWC, 1000 D.M.V. Drive, Richmond, Va. 23220, (804) 367-8600 handles cases before referral to the hearing docket. Claimants should mail Claims for Benefits and employers and insurers should mail Applications to the Claims Department. Employer Applications and claimant’s responses should be addressed to Senior Claims Examiner William Crawford.

Deputy Commissioners: Once the VWC has mailed out a Notice of Referral to the Docket, all correspondence should be sent to the office of the Deputy Commissioner designated on this Notice. See Offices above.

Lou-ann Joyner, Clerk of the Commission, VWC, 1000 D.M.V. Drive, Richmond, Va. 23220, (804) 367-8615, FAX (804) 367-9640. The Clerk's Office handles correspondence during the review and appeal process including Requests for Review, briefs and correspondence for cases on Review, and Notices of Appeal to the Court of Appeals. The Clerk also issues subpoenas before a case is referred to the docket, handles requests for copies of files and handles requests for copies of opinions.
